Frequently Asked Questions

01. Content Creation and Input

Q: Do you create WordPress websites?

in short: Yes

Doc4 started out creating Flash websites (clearly not the best move there), HTML5, and WordPress websites. Specifically, we picked up WordPress around version 1.5 and have been working with it ever since. If you have a need for a WordPress site we are more than capable of handling that for you though we may suggest a better alternative depending on the needs of the project.

These days our capabilities, from a website perspective, have expanded into using Django, WordPress, Squarespace, Shopify, Joomla (upon request), and Bootstrap. We generally build everything mobile responsive unless requested otherwise (which happens from time to time).

Q: Can Doc4 add my content (images, videos, text) for me?

in short: Yes, and no

While we may input some provided content for layout, testing, and training purposes, ultimately we are not responsible for adding content to your website unless specifically requested. If you’d like us to add your content, we can include this in the proposal or provide a separate estimate. Content, images, videos, etc. however, must be provided with a clear understanding of the organization.

Q: Can Doc4 create content or select Stock Photography for me?

in short: Yes, and no

We, unfortunately, do not provide professional copywriting or photography services. Any content such as images, videos, pdfs, etc. should be supplied in a high-resolution digital format. If photography is requested we can provide contact details to one or more local photographers or we can include time to locate imagery from stock websites such as Shutterstock in the proposal.

Q: Can Doc4 crop my photos for me? Maybe touch them up to look nicer?

in short: Yes, and no

While we are capable of providing image manipulation services they must be requested and included within a proposal. Our base estimates do not generally allow for photography manipulation or touch-ups.

Q: Wait, you’re not going to make every page of my website for me?

We are not necessarily responsible for creating every page of your website. This may sound strange if you’re not familiar with modern web design, so here’s the scoop: we are building you a website that will allow you to add, edit, and delete pages until your heart’s content. While we will often be building the more unique, custom pages for you (e.g., the Home page, the Contact page, etc.), you will be able to create as many pages as you like using any/all templates we have provided as part of the agreement.

Q: I have a logo and images I'd like to use, how do I get those files over to Doc4?

If possible, please supply any graphic files in an editable, vector format such as .eps or .ai. Photographs should be provided in a high-resolution digital format such as .psd, .eps, or .tiff. We do accept other image file formats (.webp, .jpg, .png, etc.) but cannot attest to the quality. If you choose to buy stock photographs, we can suggest stock libraries and the best way to download those images. However, it takes time to search for photographs, and if that is something you would like us to do we can add that to the proposal or provide a separate estimate.

02. Technical Stuff

Q: What's the plan for 'Hosting' / Which is the best web hosting?

Because we're not a website hosting company we don’t offer (or support) website hosting, email, or other related services. You may already have a professional hosting service/s (e.g., GoDaddy, HostGator, Bluehost, or even in-house hosting); if you do, great. If you don’t, we will set up an account for you at one of our preferred hosting providers and add your site on a server with that provider. Management of your content is typically provided and any issues are resolved directly with the host. If you’d like us to help resolve any issues with the host, we can add that to the proposal or provide a separate estimate.

Q: What sort of Technical Support does Doc4 provide?

in short: After-project technical support can be added to the proposal or provided in a separate estimate.

Every Client's needs are different and as the project unfolds we can work together to deliver a plan specific to your needs. This may include backups, timed app updates, or multi-site certificate generation. As an example, we do not provide support for email or hosting issues. These types of issues are handled at the host or registrar. If you have specific requirements please reach out.

Q: My Email isn't working, can Doc4 help?

in short: Yes, and no

While we do not provide technical support for broad email issues such as creating new accounts, investigating outages, or troubleshooting sending and receiving issues, we do support issues that stem from your projects such as a contact form failing or incorrect email links.

Q: My Website is down, can Doc4 fix it for me?

in short: Yes, and no

If you believe your website is down you can run some checks to determine what the issue may be. We've written an entire article about this which you can find here, "Website Not Working? What Are Your Options?".

Q: My App is broken, can Doc4 fit it for me?

in short: Yes, and no

If you believe your app is broken or is no longer functioning it may be the result of a newer operating system installation. This is most common on Android devices and often requires a proposal for investigation. We strive to create apps that function properly on all devices however it isn't possible to completely future-proof your App. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to reserve a portion of your company's budget for such issues.

Q: What about analytics?

Google Analytics is our go-to statistics setup however if you have specific requirements please reach out.

Q: What about my domain names?

in short: Yes, we can provide domain name assistance.

We can assist with the search, selection, purchase, and set up of domain names, however, we do not sell domain names nor provide domain name services such as contact verification or ensuring your domain has been paid for. Our registrar of choice is Namecheap though we can work with any number of other registrars as needed. Need to move one or more domain names to another registrar? We can handle that as well.

Q: What about these SSL Certificates?

in short: Yes, we handle this and any additional costs are worked into the proposal.

We can provide an SSL Certificate to a single site or add multiple sites under a single SSL Certificate umbrella. SSL Certificates are selected based on your website's security needs or complexity level and may, though not often, require yearly or bi-yearly payments.

Q: Will my website work on mobile devices?

in short: Yes

Yes. These days we assume all websites or web apps should be mobile responsive unless requested otherwise. We work hard to make sure your project looks great on mobile devices.

03. Process

Q: What if I have project changes along the way?

in short: Changes outside the project scope are worked out in additional proposals.

We don’t want to limit your ability to change your mind. The price at the beginning of any contract is based on the amount of time we estimate to accomplish the requirements, but we are flexible. If you change your mind or add something new, that won’t be a problem – we can provide a separate proposal for additional needs upon request.

Q: How do Testing and Bug fixes work?

in short: We handle the brunt of functionality testing before handing a project over.

During the development phase, we spend a good deal of time testing and fixing bugs in order to comply with the project proposal requirements. After confidently handing over the project we rely on the knowledge you have of your business to check that there are no remaining major issues or bugs. In some instances, these issues could only be discovered on your end due to the complexity of a given workflow or something we're not familiar with from your industry. In general, to offer the most cost-effective pricing we allow you to work through the project and alert us to any issues you may have found. If you’d like us to work through all testing and bug fixes, we can add that to the proposal or provide a separate estimate.

Q: What about Browser Testing?

in short: We test using current, popular browsers. If special requirements are needed please let us know.

Browser testing no longer means attempting to make a website look the same in browsers of different capabilities or on devices with different size screens. It does mean ensuring that a person’s experience of a design should be appropriate and or approximate based on the capabilities of a browser or device.

We test our work in current versions of major desktop browsers including those made by Apple (Safari), Google (Chrome), Microsoft (Edge), Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. We won’t test in other older browsers unless specifically requested to do so. If you need an enhanced design for a particularly older browser, we can provide a separate estimate for that.

Q: And Mobile Browser Testing?

in short: We test on Apple and Android devices as well as emulators including on Googe Chrome.

Testing using popular, smaller screen devices is essential in ensuring that a person’s experience of a design is appropriate to the capabilities of the device they’re using. We test in iOS: Safari and Google Chrome; and Android: Google Chrome. We won’t test in Opera Mini/Mobile, specific Android devices, or other mobile browsers unless agreed upon separately. If you need us to test using these, we can provide a separate estimate.

Q: Does Doc4 offer training?

in short: Yes

More often than not, it's necessary to provide training for use of the website, mobile app, custom software, or other projects that we have created for you. The most common reasons are that the project is very complex, so much so, that a simple walkthrough isn't enough or there are staff members on your team who need to be trained on the management of the project.

Typically we include basic training during one session lasting up to three hours in person and within Northwest Arkansas, or via remote screen sharing. If you need additional training sessions or more time, we can provide a separate estimate for that.

04. Marketing

Q: Does Doc4 provide Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

in short: Yes, and no

As we don't specialize in SEO we cannot guarantee improvements to your website’s search engine ranking. We do, however, follow best practices which may include the use of meta tags, structured data, sitemap generation, social media integration, assist with Google My Business (GMB), etc. Content keywords/optimization, backlinks, alt tags, etc. require your participation once the site goes live. If this is something you're looking to tackle on a more granular level we recommend that you contact a specialist.
