In July of 2012, we published a Photoshop template detailing how social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, LinkedIn and many others handle your professional profile image. (See the previous article here: /avatar-dimensions)
We have since updated this template to include newer and popular social media sites such as Behance, Vine, Meetup, FourSquare and, just as before, we include the base dimensions for uploading the original profile image and then reset it across a variety of sizes that a particular social media service will display it at. This is a handy tool to see just how that massive 800 x 800px profile image from YouTube will look when reduced to it’s smallest size of 24 x 24px.
Use the template to make quick changes to your profile image through smart object layers and easily save your profile images the same way. Setting all of the social media profile images in a single file can also reduce time when making a cross platform brand update.
Get it right, before you hear from a client or friend that something is wrong. Your image is important and bad brand recognition through a minor miscalculation might not destroy your company but it is 100% preventable.
